Located on the first floor of the White House, the Oval Office was created in 1909 when Taft expanded the West Wing. The Oval Office has four doors, one of which opens directly into the Rose Garden. Presidents have frequently addressed the nation from the Oval Office in times of crisis, such as Reagan’s speech after the Challenger disaster, JFK’s address about the Cuban Missle Crisis, and George W. Bush’s speech on September 11.
