John F. Kennedy addresses the nation about the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty

On July 26, 1963, President Kennedy addressed the American public "in a spirit of hope" about recent talks in Moscow about nuclear weapons. In this brief clip, President Kennedy describes the "darkening prospect of mass destruction on earth" since the advent of nuclear weapons during World War II. Kennedy announces that, thanks to talks held in Moscow the previous day, the Soviet Union and the United States have reached a historic agreement "on bringing the forces of nuclear destruction under international control."
